Out of the barn and arena, Rowan was glad to see Revenge taking okay to trail riding. Though the horse was primarily used for cutting and western show at home and here, Rowan was concerned about making her ready for all kinds of situations. To the raven haired girl, the mark of a great horse was handling any situation that arose with little to no bad behavior or panic. Though high strung, Rowan had forgone the usual work down of the mare in hopes that they could take a longer trail ride. Now she wondered if she'd made a mistake as the bay was tense and ready to run under her. Sitting straight with her eyes on the horizon, she concentrated on not being nervous which would only make Revenge more nervous and bouncy. As they came into the lush green grass, Rowan asked the mare to move into a trot and then a lope. The speed was wonderful. The mare was small but ran with quick strides meaning that she covered ground with amazing speed.
Looking ahead, Rowan steered the mare away from the stream at first, knowing that Revenge wasn't sure about water obstacles yet having only been exposed a few times. Slowly, the pair wound their way around the field testing each other out in an open environment. Finally, Rowan encouraged Revenge toward the water. The horse had relaxed and was at first willing to approach the water. However, when Rowan asked the horse to step into the water, she balked and backed up a few steps. Rowan turned her around and brought her back to the water just as slowly again the horse balked. Breathing slowly, Rowan repeated the process until the mare stepped out into the water tentatively. Things seemed to be going well so far.
